General Society Introduction

Welcome to Godalming Angling Society, founded in 1881 with fishing on the River Wey and historic carp water, Broadwater Lake.

We have grown considerably since that date and can now offer a selection of well maintained and disabled user- friendly fisheries to suit all tastes.

Our lakes vary from the beautiful old estate lake at Busbridge to our silver fisheries at Marsh Farm, renowned for their record sized crucians and with its own large and well stocked shop, Apollo Angling Centre.

The three lakes at Marsh Farm were newly formed and opened in 2004 after stocking from neighbouring Johnsons’ Lake with its specimen, roach, rudd, tench and crucians.

We are a Clubmark club well respected within the angling fraternity for our coaching of young anglers, boys and girls, using the specially designed Hill Pond, smallest of the three lakes at Marsh Farm, having been designed specifically with coaching in mind. Every year we coach up to 300 young anglers.

Fly fishing is also catered for at Winkworth Arboretum, with Winkworth Flyfishers being run by the Club as a separate section. Whilst it is open to non-members, members may join at reduced rates.

As well as eight lakes, we have approaching eight miles of some of the best and varied fishing that the River Wey can offer, from the A3 bridge at Eashing through to Guildford, with a combination of river and navigation stretches that provide excellent fishing for pleasure, competition and specimen anglers throughout the length.

We welcome new members of all ages and abilities and believe we can offer a wonderful sporting experience.

Tight lines to you all,

Malcolm Richardson, Hon.Sec.
