The Environment Agency have for a number of years provided the Society with a winter delivery of fish for our river, for which we are most grateful. Again this year we received a call from EA Fishery Officer, Adrian Bicknell, with the news that a batch of fish would be delivered to us at Eashing on December 3rd.
This batch of 18-month old fish were bred at EA Calverton, and comprised of 200 Barbel, 200 Chub, and 200 Dace all in superb condition. As in previous years they were released into the river at Eashing downstream of the road bridge.
Footnote : This summer the EA carried out a survey at Eashing, and most encouragingly whilst electro-fishing located some young Barbel in the 1lb to 3lb size range, proving that these annual stockings are having a positive impact - for a couple of associated pictures click eashing summer 2015 survey.
