Saturday the 2st of august saw eight hopeful youngsters (and their dads) line the banks at Broadwater for the rescheduled carp fishing night event.
A balmy moonlight night awaited the competitors with no sign of the torrential rain and thunder that caused the cancellation of the event earlier.
The fishing kicked off a7 7pm and by the time our delivery of pizzas arrived from Farncombe pizza emporium- Farmhouse Pizza- Leo Hackman had landed the first carp of the night. he lost a second one shortly after and looked to be cruising.
However the fish moved past Leo's swim and settled overnight in front of Tom Shepard on peg 4. This swim has good form on junior night events and Tom made no mistake landing a total of 11 carp for an estimated 100lb. There was a 5 way tie for second place - Charlie Shepard, Leo Hackman, Liberty Johnson, Cameron and Callum all having 4 fish each.
This year the event had two prizes- one for the most carp caught - which Tom was the clear winner- and the second for the heaviest single fish. This was an close run thing with Liberty on peg 3 taking a 16lb2 oz fish to the scales only to be beaten by Charlie S o peg 5 with a thumping 16lb 6 oz fish!
A good night for all concerned and a great night for the Shepard family. Leo can take some satisfaction from having caught the first fish and not getting too many interruptions during the night!
Thanks to all the bailiffs who kept the banks clear for us and Kevin Holcombe for his tireless work running the bookings and organisation on the evening. Also thanks to Gardner tackle for donating goody bags for all the competitors. Much appreciated.
